Depp ‘said he’d put dog in microwave’

JOHNNY Depp traded sick jokes with a pal about burning ex-wife Amber Heard and having sex with her corpse, the High Court heard.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 57, also allegedly laughed about the idea of putting her dog in a microwave.

And it was claimed that on one occasion, he grabbed Yorkshire terrier Pistol and held her out of the window of a moving car, “making howling noises”.

The allegations emerged yesterday, during Mr Depp’s libel case against the The Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, over a 2018 article labelling him a wife-beater – which he denies.

Giving evidence, Mr Depp said his “sense of humour is slightly skewed” as 2013 texts with actor Paul Bettany emerged. The pals appear to joke about setting Ms Heard, 34, on fire before Mr Depp says: “I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

The court also heard details of an email Ms Heard wrote to him in June 2013, which was never sent and in which she said he lived “in a world of enablers”.

In response to the email, Mr Depp – in a relationship with Ms Heard from 2012 and married to her 2015 to 2017 – said it appeared she “was building a dossier very early on” as “an insurance policy”.

Ms Heard’s email, read by NGN’S barrister Sasha Wass QC, said: “I don’t know if I can do this any more. It is like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Half of you I love madly and the other half scares me. I can’t take him.

“I never really know/understand which one I’m dealing with until it’s too late. The drinking assures me I am dealing with the monster.”

The barrister said to Mr Depp: “Your answer to Ms Heard’s allegation that you were a serial domestic abuser was that this is a hoax.” He replied: “Hoax is probably the best word because the allegations are patently untrue.

“From hearing you read out this, that was not sent to me, and having studied the case, I will suggest, ma’am, that it appears Ms Heard was building a dossier very early on that appears to be an insurance policy for later.”

Referring to Mr Depp allegedly hanging Pistol out of a moving car, Ms Wass said: “You opened the window and were angry and aggressive… the monster side of your character.” Mr Depp replied: “No ma’am, I was not in that mode at all.”

Ms Wass said: “And you took hold of Pistol and you held her out of the window and started making howling noises.”

He responded: “I can say it is a very endearing image but it is absolute utter falsity.” Ms Wass then suggested Mr Depp thought this was funny, to which he said: “No ma’am,

I don’t think

hanging a small defenceless dog out of a window is fun.”

She then asked if Mr Depp laughed at a suggestion of Ms Heard’s dog being put in a microwave – and he replied it was a “running joke” between himself, Ms Heard and others.

Mr Depp added: “I wouldn’t say I was the inventor of that particular joke and also I wasn’t the only one who brought anything like that up.”

On his second day in the witness box, the Hollywood star faced further questioning on his drug use and allegations of violence and jealousy. Mr Depp denied slapping Ms Heard three times after she laughed at his “Wino Forever” tattoo in March 2013, when he had “fallen off the wagon”. He said: “I’m sorry but that is not true.”

The court also heard details of an alleged incident in Hicksville, California, in June 2013 – one of 14 allegations of domestic violence that NGN relies on in its defence against Mr Depp’s claim, all of which he denies.

Ms Heard claims the actor became “enraged” and “jealous” when one of her friends, referred to as Kelly Sue and described as having been “very close to Ms Heard, touched her”.

Ms Wass said to Mr Depp: “You started to get angry, ‘the monster’ joined the party and you took exception to a woman called Kelly Sue.”

Mr Depp said he did “take exception”, saying: “She was putting her hands on Amber and I thought it was an uncomfortable position to put her in.” He denied becoming angry and shouting at her, saying: “I removed Miss Kelly Sue’s hand from Ms Heard’s body and told her not to do that.” Mr Depp also denied an alleged incident in March 2013 in which Ms Heard claims he hit her after a row about a painting by her ex, Tasya van Ree, which was hanging in her bedroom.

Ms Wass also read out another text Mr Depp sent to pal Bettany, 49, in May 2014, which said: “I’m going to properly stop the booze thing, darling. Drank all night before I picked Amber up to fly to LA this past Sunday.

“Ugly mate. No food for days. Powders. Half a bottle of whisky. A thousand red bull and vodkas, pills, 2 bottles of champers on plane and what do you get?

“An angry aggro injun in a f***ing blackout, screaming obscenities and insulting any f**k who got near.”

Asked about the text, Mr Depp said “powders” referred to cocaine. Ms Wass said it showed he “did consume more than previously admitted”, which the actor said was correct.

The hearing continues.
