He said: “My manager set up interviews with all the major agents and the only one I couldn’t get to meet was UTA. Then a week later out of the blue, she got a call saying they wanted to
meet.
“My manager and I went to the office in Beverly Hills where we were met by Blair Cohen.
“She
is one of the most powerful women in Hollywood and she was pitching UTA to me. My manager Meg Mortimer couldn’t understand what was happening.
“We were brought up to this giant boardroom and I had to sit at the top while there were about 25 agents.
“I honestly felt like I was signing for Manchester United.
“The others left and we got down to the nitty gritty and my head was spinning. My manager asked Blair what the hell had happened and she said Judd called them and said they needed to sign me.
“She said it took a while to find out who Simon Delaney was but Judd doesn’t ring very often and when he rings and recommends someone, he is rarely wrong.
“And all it cost me was the price of six beer mats.”
That trip to LA would set Simon on a path that would have him share the screen with A-listers such as Vince Vaughan and Shaun Penn. But the role of his life came a year later when he landed a guest star role in CBS’ hit legal drama.
