Eoin eager to get going at Bolton

- BY EAMON DOGGETT

EOIN DOYLE completed his switch to Bolton Wanderers on a threeyear contract yesterday.

The Dubliner was the top scorer in League Two for Swindon Town last season with 25 goals, 12 of which came in a dozen successive games to match Jamie Vardy’s (inset) record set in 2015.

But having helped Swindon to promotion, Doyle turned down two offers of a new contract with the Robins.

Instead the 32-year old, who has a scoring record of better than one in two in League Two, has been swayed to stay in the fourth tier by Bolton despite the likes of Ipswich Town and League One Sunderland targeting him.

Doyle admitted that the appointment of his former Chesterfield teammate Ian Evatt as Bolton’s new boss was a big factor. “I got a call from the gaffer when he got the job and I am delighted to be here,” he said.

“I played alongside him and I know him well. I had kept an eye on what he did at Barrow and they far exceeded expectations, so I am very excited to be working for him.

“The style his teams play is good for me, personally, and I cannot wait to get going.”

Evatt feels that the club has pulled off a real coup in signing Doyle, who made a name for himself in the League of Ireland before moving across the water.

The Wanderers boss said: “I am over the moon that we have been able to sign Eoin and fight off competition from other clubs.

“Eoin is a statement of intent by the club and is a player I know very well.

“He has many good qualities, both as a player and a person, and we are looking forward to getting started.”
