I’m OK with getting DWTS

-

MARTY Whelan has ruled out competing on Dancing With The Stars but said he is ready to fill Nicky Byrne’s shoes as presenter if the time comes.

The RTE legend screen tested for the high-profile gig when the first series got the green light in 2016 but the job went to the Westlife singer.

Marty told The Social Media: “As I told Larry Bass, give me a shout if you are looking for a presenter.

“I went out to support Mary Kennedy but I am not going down that road, it is not a thing I need to do.

“If I need to do something, I will get my drums out and start a band.”

Marty is a big fan of the show and is regularly seen in the audience each year.

He said he thinks the dynamic between Nicky and his co-presenter Jennifer Zamparelli works perfectly.

Marty added: “What they have is perfect and it works really well. I was one of the people they had in their sights and they went with Nicky and that is fine.

“I think he is doing a really good job and I think he is very natural in the role.

“What I like about Nicky is that he is a good fella when it comes to chatting to the celebrities.

“They went with him and that is OK, you move on.”

The Dubliner explained he loves chatting and interacting with people and presenting DWTS would be perfect for that, just like the lottery show which he is famous for fronting. Marty said: “I have been involved with lottery programmes here for years.

“I did Fame And Fortune for 11 years and I have been doing Winning Streak nearly as long.

“I like people and chatting with them. Dancing With The Stars would have been another element of that.”

However, he added he is already busy enough with Winning Streak and his amazing RTE Lyric FM show Marty In The Morning.

He said: “I am working five days a week on radio and Winning Streak on a Saturday and that is enough for any human being.”
