TRAGIC BABY & MUM FOUND DEAD
A TRAGIC nurse was found dead beneath the M50 toll bridge yesterday – just hours before her infant son was discovered unresponsive at home.
The body of Nicola Keane, who was in her 30s, was located at Lower Road in the Strawberry Beds near Lucan, Co Dublin.
She had been seen behaving erratically in the area at 3.45am. A source said last night: “This is a terrible tragedy. Gardai are
not looking for anyone else. The postmortem on the baby will determine which way the investigation will go.”
A s o u r c e l a s t n i g h t s a i d t h e postmortem on the boy was deemed inconclusive, adding: “Asphyxiation but it may have been an accident.”
When Nicola’s body was f ound , gardai managed to i dentify her and went to her home on Shackleton Way, about 15 minutes away.
There the paediatric nurse’s sevenmonth- old boy was found unresponsive. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
Detectives from Lucan found no evidence of a violent death when they carried out a forensic examination of the house.
It is understood that when they called to the property it was then the baby’s body was discovered in the house. One person who knew Nicola in Co Mayo described the deaths as “absolutely devastating news”.
It is believed the mum moved from Ballina to live in Dublin more than six years ago with her partner.
Another woman described her as being a “kind and considerate” person.
Locals in Ballina were said to be stunned and numbed by the tragic deaths – Nicola had been a choir singer before moving to the capital.

Gardai were conducting door- to- door enquiries last night.
A sp okesman s ai d: “Gardai are conducting an investigation into the c i r c u mst a n c e s s u r r o u n d i n g t h e discovery of a body of a woman on the Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, Lucan, Co Dublin, and the unexplained death of an infant boy in a house in Lucan on October 22.
“At approximately 3.45am f o l l o w i n g r e p o r t s o f a p e d e s t r i a n s e e n a c t i n g suspiciously at the M50 ( toll plaza) bridge, gardai discovered the body of a woman. Following this incident gardai went to a house in Lucan where a seven- month- old baby boy was f ound i n an unresponsive condition.
“He was pronounced dead scene a short time later.
“An i n c i d e n t r o o m h a s b e e n established at Lucan Garda station and a technical examination of the scene has taken place.
“The Coroner and Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.
“At this stage, investigating gardai are treating these incidents as a family tragedy and are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the deaths.
“No further information is available at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”
