BRID TIPPED TO BE A HIT IN OZ RULES

- BY PAT NOLAN

ORLA FINN has backed former Cork team- mate Brid Stack’s AFLW move, saying she’s a “perfect fit” for

Australian rules.

Stack ( inset), who won 11 All- Irelands before retiring last year, announced earlier this month that she would be signing for the Great Western Sydney Giants ahead of the 2021 season, with ex- Mayo star Cora Staunton and Donegal’s Yvonne Bonner also on the club’s books.

Cork star Finn said: “I’m delighted for her, I think she’s dead right to take the opportunity to go and her husband and her son are going out with her which will make it a lot nicer for her over there and help her to settle in.

“She’d be good friends with Cora Staunton as well and she’s going to be playing alongside her so that will make it a little bit easier too. I think she’s a perfect fit for the game.

“She’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with over the years. I think it’s a great opportunity for her.”

Although she’s retired from intercounty football, Stack is the first Cork player past or present to make a move to the AFLW despite the array of talent in the county, though Finn says she hasn’t been approached.

She added: “I don’t know would I be really suited for that game, the way I’m built.

“I’m sure a few of the girls were asked though, a few of the Cork girls, but none of them took up the offer. Maybe in the future some of them might be interested in going.

“I just think with their college and careers and stuff they weren’t in a position to go. But I think going forward some girls would have the interest in going.”
