Power cut short this campaign

- BY PAT NOLAN

KATIE POWER shares the frustration of her boss TJ Reid at gyms being forced to close down.

The Kilkenny camogie star works as a personal trainer at Reid’s TJR Health and Fitness facility, which had to shut for six weeks from yesterday as Level 5 restrictions kicked in.

Reid has voiced his anger at the decision, saying that “we need a better ‘ living with covid plan’ not another lockdown”.

Power said: “There’s been a huge outcry the last couple of weeks.

“It’s not like people can exercise outside like they could in the first lockdown.

“If it was only an hour it was a nice sense of something to do for an hour two or three times a week. That was disappointing to see the gyms close.

“He [ Reid] has it run so well. You can only stay for an hour slot. You have to

book in online. If you don’t, you’re not getting in to the gym.

“After the hour, the gym is deep cleaned for 15 or 20 minutes, then the next hour slot starts. It’s not like people coming and going whenever they want.

“He had opened up an extension there only two or three weeks ago. There is so much room in there. Even when it’s busy it’s a massive place. You’re never really close to anyone.”

It’s been a trying time for Power as, having just recovered from a hand injury, she recently broke her kneecap, ruling her out of Kilkenny’s All- Ireland bid.

“I only got the last club game in, then back in with the county for maybe six weeks. Then six days before the game last weekend that was it, my year was over.

“I didn’t get to hurl with Kilkenny at all this year.”
