I’m scared of coming back from the States in a coffin
Brave Vicky on cancer trial fears
CAMPAIGNER Vi c ky Phel a n embarked on her journey to the US yesterday for experimental cancer treatment.
The brave mum of two made the dif f icult decision to l eave her family to travel to Maryland to take part in a cancer trial for the next six months.
However, over the weekend Vicky told the Irish Mirror there is no guarantee the trial will work, adding her biggest fear is “coming home in a coffin”.
She added: “Even though I don’t want to be away from my kids, I ’m torn.
“If this trial works, I get more time with my kids.
“What I ’m scared of most is not coming back or coming back in a coffin.”
Vicky, who lifted the lid on the Cervicalcheck scandal, shared snaps from Dublin Airport with her si st er Lyndsey and dad John after she and her “travel companions” were granted access to a platinum suite before the journey.

“You just wouldn’t get this kindness and generosity anywhere else.”
The 44- year- old, from Co Kilkenny, revealed earlier this year her cancer has spread and l ast weekend told of how she had made the decision to t r y alt ernative t reatment i n the US.

However, Vicky pushed back a g a i n s t t h a t a s s h e insisted she wanted to “try something else” and went on to research alternatives where she found the US trial.
Vicky previously told the Irish Mirror how she has “no faith” in the current Government to fix women’s healthcare in Ireland as she slammed Health Minister St ephen Donnelly f or snubbing her before her trip.
