Paul Sinha’s TV Showdown, ITV

★ ★ ★

With his fellow Chasers all having flown solo at prime time in one form or another, it was only a matter of time before ITV gave Paul Sinha the chance to show what he could do away from the day job.

The good news for Paul was that he didn’t have to brave the I’m A Celebrity jungle, go on a sugar- free diet, row around the British coast, or even sing and dance for a Comic Relief special.

He just had to sit in a nice warm studio and host a socially distanced celebrity revamp of Telly Addicts.

So he was already winning before his Saturday

night debut – and he was just about ahead afterwards as well.

TV Showdown is a solid, if unspectacular, quiz show that scored highly in the play along ability stakes.

As a host, Paul could perhaps do with a few pointers from Bradley Walsh on how to quicken up the pace and shut down any waffling contestants. If I was being extra picky, I’d also say the questions were far too easy.

I’m not one to boast but only a couple threw me. One involved having to identify Holly Willoughby’s giggle, the other involved guessing the identity of a mystery TV character from a set of clues that were so random and general they wouldn’t have looked out of place on The Masked Singer.

Those were just minor gripes though.

Let’s be honest, any programme that shows that clip of Bobby Davro belly- flopping his high dive on The Games

2003 will always get at least three stars from me.
