LEIGH NO HIGHBEE
LEIGH GRIFFITHS has managed just one goal against Hibs in seven years at Celtic – but insists it’s got nothing to do with being a Hibee.
The Hoops front man ( above) has hit the net against most Scottish rivals but hasn’t racked them up against his boyhood heroes.
Griffiths insists the stats are just a coincidence – and he’s out to change the record tonight.
He said: “Is it any different because it’s Hibs? No – it’s just that I’m normally injured when we play them!
“Listen, you have players who are good goal scorers but have that enigma team. Just because I played with Hibs and Livingston doesn’t men anything to me.
“My job is to score goals for Celtic and I try my best.
“A couple of seasons ago when we played Hibs we beat them once in the league and I was the one who scored the winner.
“It’s just another game. No matter who the opposition is, I want to play as many games and score as many goals as I can.”
Griffiths knows Celtic can’t afford any more slip- ups but is wary of the Hibs threat tonight, especially in- form frontman Kevin Nisbet.
The former Dunfermline ace has banged 10 goals in 20 games this season and the Hoops star reckons it won’t be long before the pair team up in the Scotland squad.
Griffiths said: “Nisbet has done well since he came to the Premiership. He’s a good player who I’ve seen a number of times.
“He’s strong, can hold the ball up and is quick. I’ve no doubt he’ll be a Scotland star. Him and [ Christian] Doidge have got a good partnership and seem to link up really well.
“You saw that at the start of the season – how well they’ve been playing. They’ll be a threat as will other players. We need to be on the ball to keep them out.”
