Duchess dips her toe into romantic fiction
Fergie draws on experience for novel
PRINCE Andrew’s ex- wife Fergie has written a romantic novel for publishers Mills & Boon after taking inspiration from her own saucy sex life.
Sarah, Duchess of York, said the book about an ancestor “drew on many parallels” from her own romantic experiences.
She said when she found out little about great- great aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott, her “imagination took over” and she “invented a history for her”.
Fergie, 61, was photographed having her toes sucked by Texan millionaire John Bryan on holiday in St Tropez, France, in 1992 just months after separating from Andrew. The scandal spelled the end of her time as a member of the Royal Family.
The Duke of York remains in exile from his royal role over his relationship with convicted pa ed op hi le US billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
Fergie still lives with him at his Royal Lodge home on the Windsor Estate despite divorcing him in 1996.
Speaking of the book, Her Heart for a Compass, she said: “It all started with researching my ancestry. I first came across Lady Margaret, who intrigued me because she shared one of my given names.
“I invented a history for her that incorporated real people and events, including some of my other ancestors.
“I drew on many parallels from my life for Lady Margaret’s journey.”
Among Mills & Boons’ recent titles are Dangerous Liaisons, Latin Lovers and A Royal Secret and there is much anticipation over the content of Fergie’s novel.
The prolific publisher said it “incorporates research into the Duchess’s heritage and draws upon her own unique life journey and experiences”.
Fergie’s first book, Budgie the Helicopter, was written for children in 1989.
