Country stars call up lonesome fans

Daniel, Trudi and Nathan among 50 artists to check in

- BY MEGAN MARTIN news@irishmirror.ie

MORE than 50 of Ireland’s top country music artists have come together for a new “reach out project” to give fans a much-needed boost with a phone call from their favourite singer.

The campaign is the brainchild of country singer Trudi Lalor and her songwriter husband Billy Morrissey, who felt compelled to do something for their struggling industry, which has been at a complete standstill since March 2020.

Trudi said: “We will be the last to reopen so it is coming up to almost a year since any of us has performed. A lot of us are feeling that impact.

“There is a very strong bond between country music fans and the artists, it is like one big family, we are all friends.

“Country music artists don’t just show up, perform and go home – they meet their fans afterwards and the fans, they call them friends more than fans, so that impact mentally and socially on our fans has been huge”.

People can nominate themselves or a deserving loved one to get a phone call from their favourite

Irish country artist.

Stars including

Daniel and Margo

O’donnell, Nathan

Carter, Una Healy,

Declan Nerney,

Cliona O’hagan and many more have signed on to take part in the heart-warning project.

Trudi added: “The list is going on and on. We just called our friends Daniel, Nathan and Margo and it snowballed.”

Daniel said: “It’s a good idea, it gives us back a connection with the fans because we’ve been removed from it for a while.”

His sister Margo added: “It’s the people out there that gave me everything I have, and they’re stuck in their houses. They’re the people we’re trying to reach out to.

“I just want to reach out and give a little back of what they’ve given me.”

And Wagon Wheel singer Nathan said: “A lot of people feel very down and depressed about the whole current situation.

“So if we can bring a bit of light and positivity to them with a phone call, then we’re happy to do it.”
