BRIDGERTON actor Nicola Coughlan has revealed the show will return for series three and four.

The Derry Girls star plays Penelope Featherington in the hugely successful Netflix programme and revealed her excitement at the news yesterday.

Nicola, 34, tweeted: “Bridgerton has just been renewed for Seasons Three and Four. That’s just a little bit iconic.”

Netflix confirmed the good news on Twitter, posting: “Breaking news from the ton! Bridgerton is returning for seasons three and four.”

Producer Shonda Rhimes said: “From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team.”

The show was inspired by the bestselling novels by Julia Quinn and is set during the Regency era in England.

The series follows eight close-knit siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family attempt to find love. It began streaming on January 1 and has since been named the fifth most-watched Netflix original series of all time.

The hit show had everyone hot and bothered with their steamy sex scenes between the Duke of Hastings and Daphne Bridgerton.

Following the announcement, one delighted fan said: “Never doubted it; the whole team (on and off screen) does such a marvellous job at bringing the books to life. Can’t wait. Thank you.”

Another added: “That is the best news I’ve had so far this week.”

A third said: “Honestly one of the best shows to come out of Netflix.”
