Headache for Horan & his men
Leitrim v Mayo
Machale Park, tomorrow 2pm BY MICHAEL SCULLY
MAYO boss James Horan has named a side without some big names as his panel deals with Covid issues ahead of tomorrow’s Connacht SFC semi-final with Leitrim.
Lee Keegan, Rob Hennelly, Kevin Mcloughlin, Jordan Flynn and Kevin Mcloughlin miss out for the Machale Park clash after playing in the quarterfinal demolition of Sligo, although it is not known if any are injured or rested.
Horan is yet to name his substitutes for the clash as the Mayo county board are working with the HSE to determine the extent of the Covid problems that exist, with some players tested on Thursday and more tested yesterday.
“Mayo GAA are currently working with the HSE on a number of Covid-19 related queries amongst members of the County Senior Football panel,” read a statement from the county board that was released yesterday.
“Mayo GAA are following HSE guidelines and our Senior team are continuing their preparation for Sunday’s Connacht Championship game versus Leitrim.”
The team will be captained by Aidan O’shea, who will make his 150th appearance for the county, including his 71st in the Championship – only the fourth Mayo player to reach that landmark after Andy Moran, Keith Higgins and Mcloughlin.
