Every Brit of me feels so close to her
Superfan who features in new documentary tells of love for troubled singer
AN Irish Britney Spears superfan has opened up about his “pure” support of the star.
I listened to songs & got this connection with her DAVID MCGUIRE TIPPERARY YESTERDAY
David Mcguire, who grew up near the rural Comeragh Mountains, said he felt a connection to the singer from a young age.
The Tipperary man, who is appearing in an Irish-made Britney Spears documentary Pieces Of Me, said supporting the 39-year-old is like feeding his soul.
The Free Britney movement has been gathering pace over the past few months as fans help the star fight for her freedom from her conservatorship.
Businessman David said: “Being a fan is something that comes from deep inside of you, it’s almost a base feeling that you have.
“And being a fan of someone like Britney, who’s been there since I was a child, she’s been around the majority of my life.
“Even in my clinics, Britney plays in the background.
“It all started when I was say 11, maybe younger.
“My little brother had a poster of her on his wall and I thought, ‘Who’s this?’
“I listened to her songs and saw her videos and I kind of got this connection with her.
“I’m from the countryside, I’m from the Comeragh Mountains in the middle of nowhere, so having an outlet like listening to Britney and trying to copy all the dance moves kept me busy as a child.
“My dad and mum are really cool, I think because they knew they had a creative son, they recognised I was a little bit different and let me express myself.
“When they saw me being a fan of Britney, they loved it.”
And speaking on RTE Radio One yesterday, he added: “It’s a weird thing to describe but as I said, it’s something that comes from some place pure and someone described it to me before as feeding your soul.
“It’s something you don’t have to do but it’s something that just comes naturally.”
The #Freebritney is a bid to grant the singer autonomy from her ongoing conservatorship from her dad which began in 2008.
It became popular in 2019 after the emergence of allegations involving her time in a psychiatric facility early in the year.
