LIE WITH ME

C5, 9pm

THIS gripping psychological drama is set to thrill viewers for four consecutive nights this week.

Charlie Brooks, best known for playing Janine in Eastenders – a part she’s set to reprise – takes the leading role in this Melbourne-set show.

She plays Anna, a British woman who moves to her husband Jake’s native Australia with their two small children, seeking a fresh start for her marriage.

Anna and Jake (Brett Tucker) hire a young nanny, but she isn’t the innocent stranger she pretends to be.

Becky, played by Phoebe Roberts, may be good with the kids but she’s keen to poke her nose into the couple’s affairs.

Meanwhile, all is not well between Anna and Jake, who keep having blazing rows.

Even the gardener warns Becky away from the job, telling her that “something’s not right in this house” and to get out while she can.

Anna suspects that Jake is having an affair and confides in Becky. “It starts with the little things, the telltale signs,” she says. “Unanswered phone calls, meetings that aren’t in the diary, mysterious bits of jewellery… all those little bits add up.”

But as viewers, we’re left wildly confused about what we believe.

Clues are drip fed throughout – the hint of something bad in Anna’s past, a mention of medication, a raised eyebrow as Jake checks his phone again.

And that’s not to mention the opening scene where the nanny, in a flash-forward, is being questioned about “the deceased”. What is going on?

It’s a suburban noir chiller that will leave you with plenty of questions.
