GPS can sign off for disease recovery pass
FAMILY doctors can sign off on a vaccine pass for travel and bars and restaurants.
The Cabinet has agreed a letter from your GP, saying you had Covid and recovered, will satisfy qualification for the EU’S Digital Covid Certificate.
This paperwork will allow you to hit the skies and head abroad on non-essential travel from Monday.
It was also confirmed last night this will be a “gold pass” for entry into all pubs and restaurants when the vaccine pass laws come into effect.
The clarity came from the Government press secretary last night. He said a letter from your GP will be enough for the call centre operators issuing DCCS based on recovery.
However, there could be serious pressure on these centres after it emerged at the same Government briefing there will only be 60 to 90 workers present.
This all came after a day of mass confusion with claims and counterclaims from ministers – mainly from within the Green Party. The day started with Tourism Minister Catherine Martin, who has responsibility for hospitality, saying GPS would play a part.
However, just over an hour later her party colleague and junior minister in charge of digital affairs, Ossian Smith, came on the same airwaves, RTE Radio One, to “apologise” for Ms Martin “on her behalf”. And then Green Party leader and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan said the decision has not been made yet and will be decided on by a vaccine pass working group that met for the first time yesterday.
Labour leader Alan Kelly launched a blistering attack on Ms Martin over the confusion on Covid certs for hospitality.
He said she “didn’t know what she was talking about” as some questions remained among the public last night ahead of a planned indoor reopening of pubs and restaurants next week.
