O’shea ‘baffled’ at online charity jibes

- BY KATIE GALLAGHER

GREG O’shea said he is “baffled” after fans and followers accused him of cashing in on charity work as he joined a host of famous faces to celebrate getting their vaccine.

The Love Island winner revealed he was “lucky” enough to have received his jab before heading off for the Tokyo Olympics next week.

The Irish rugby star also backed Unicef’s Get A Vaccine Give A Vaccine campaign, and urged his followers to do the same.

However, the 26-year-old star said he was “baffled” as he had to clarify he had not been paid to support the charity’s campaign.

Greg added: “I’m actually so baffled by people sometimes. Like commenting and messaging me and giving out and giving me abuse saying my Unicef work was a paid post. Obviously it wasn’t a paid post. How could you think that. It’s charity work. I’m just trying to help out in any small way I can. I was lucky enough to get a vaccine because firstly I’m an asthmatic, so I needed it, and secondly because I’m going to the Olympics.

“So every Olympic athlete going from Ireland got a vaccine. And then I was like, you know what, I want to help out.

“So I linked with Unicef and they are doing a campaign ‘Get a vaccine, give a vaccine’, I’m just trying to help support that.

“Honestly I’m just so baffled by people sometimes.”

Greg joins a host of Irish celebrities to back the campaign, as Maia Dunphy, rugby and radio star Donncha O’callaghan and RTE’S Rick O’shea have also supported the cause.

O’shea is part of the Ireland

Sevens team which secured the final qualification spot for the

Tokyo Games by defeating France last month in Monaco.
