Shayne sets goal to wed on Irish soil

-

SINGER Shayne Ward has revealed his hopes for a fairytale Irish wedding in a castle.

The performer, who first rose to fame as the winner of the second series of The X Factor 16 years ago, has strong Irish roots, with family in Roscommon, Dundalk, Tuam, Tipperary and Cork.

And whilst he was born in the UK, the Manchester singer’s parents were born and bred in Ireland, and he admitted he shouts his heritage from the rooftops.

Shane, 36, also revealed he would love to celebrate his big day with his fiancee Sophie Austin on Irish soil.

He told us: “I would love to, and I might even convince her, but I would love to. That would be awesome.

“I’m a huge fan of my castles and there are plenty of them over there, so you never know.”

The soap star couple started dating in 2015 and welcomed their first daughter Willow May a year later.

They announced their engagement in 2017.

And despite reports the pandemic spoiled their wedding plans so far, Shayne rubbished the rumours and admitted they’ve yet to even set a date.

He revealed: “We didn’t set any date, it didn’t get postponed.

“I’m sure millions of weddings got postponed because of the pandemic but not mine and Sophie’s.”

Best known to telly fans for his award-winning role as Aidan Connor on Coronation Street from 2015 to 2018, the That’s My Goal hitmaker is back on the music scene with a new single Crazy In Love.

And Shayne told us how lucky he feels to have an Irish passport as he plans to go back on tour. He said: “I hold an Irish passport so I am very proud of that and shout it from the rooftops if anyone asks me.”
