FRANCKY MAY MAKE IT SEVEN FOR BOWEN with FOUR top tips
IT might be a scorching weekend in prospect but it’s the jumpers that take my fancy.
Market Rasen hosts its big summer card and there looks to be several tasty bets starting with FRANCKY DU BERLAIS (2.40) in the Betway Summer Plate.
It’s a 600-mile round trip from Peter Bowen’s (below) Pembrokeshire base to the Lincolnshire track but the marathon journey hasn’t stopped him lifting this trophy six times.
A strong pace is just what his in-form Francky Du Berlais needs, as he showed when storming home to nail Pistol Whipped in a competitive contest at Uttoxeter in May.
Cartmel was never going to suit him last month but it should have put him spot on for today. Have 1pt eachway at 10-1 with most firms paying out on five places.
WICKED WEST (2.05) has won both his races since joining Richard Newland and he looks the one to be on in the Betway Summer Hurdle.
He easily brushed aside the opposition in a Southwell novices’ hurdle last month and he should be able to get a nice prominent position without too much trouble.
His slick jumping should be a big asset in this type of race. Have 1pt to win at 8-1.
Earlier on the card, SID HOODIE (1.30) has sound claims. She won five times for Charlie Mann and she’s starting to look well treated again.
She wasn’t disgraced on her debut for Alex Hales at Fakenham in May when a blunder at the final flight made her performance look worse than it was.
If the breathing operation she’s had since that run has done the trick she should be up to winning this grade of race. Have 1pt to win at 7-1.
The Weatherbys Super Sprint is the big race on the Flat at Newbury.
Royal Ascot winner Chipotle and Vintage Clarets take up a large chunk of the market, so there should be plenty of each-way value.
SIENNA BONNIE (3.40) cost only £4,200 at the sales so she gets in with bottom weight.
She’s a speedy filly and her close fourth behind Canonized at Windsor last month gives her a decent shout.
There’s no way she should be 20-1 so have 1pt each-way with Sky Bet paying out on five places.
