SNAP , CRACKLE & POP EXPECTED IN TIPP TOMORROW

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

LIGHTLY-RACED mare Popong might be capable of giving Henry de Bromhead a fourth successive win in the Tipperary Town Plaza Handicap Chase tomorrow.

An eight-race chase card faces punters. And Popong is expected to round-off a good day for de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore.

This mare registered her sole success over fences in Listowel last year, before she chased home highclass, subsequent Grade 1 winner Colreevy at Punchestown in October.

She was on the heels of the leaders when making her exit two out in the handicap chase won by Uisce Beatha at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting.

In only two outings since then, she finished a good third behind Brahma Bull and Ten Ten at the Punchestown festival and, after a break, faded in the closing stages when fifth to Agent Boru in the Mayo National in Ballinrobe.

Back in trip, and open to further improvement, Popong should go close.

In the earlier beginners events, Havingagoodtime and Fusain have solid prospects for the de Bromhead/blackmore combination.

This pair filled the frame in the race won by stablecompanion Raya Time from highly-rated Embittered in Wexford three weeks ago.

Fusain, a 20/1 shot, filled third spot, beaten six and a half lengths and has big claims in the Tipperary Racecourse Beginners Chase.

Havingagoodtime, successful twice over hurdles, was an eye-catching fourth in that Wexford race, for which she started at 28/1.

Back in mares company here in the opener, she should be very tough to beat.

In the finale, the Racing Again August 6th Beginners Chase, the Tony Mullins-trained mare Josephina, with Jack Foley claiming 7lb, has definite claims if reproducing her handicap third to Downthecellar at Tramore three weeks ago.
