KANE TO RAIN ON TOON’S PARADE

Nuno backs Harry to end drought at St James’ Park

- HECTOR NUNNS

TOTTENHAM boss Nuno Espirito Santo is backing Harry Kane to rain on the big Toon parade.

Spurs travel to a sold-out St James’ Park tomorrow with the stadium set to be rocking after the takeover completion by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and the exit of former owner Mike Ashley.

And the visitors’ Portuguese boss is determined to silence the Geordie hordes, believing his under-fire England captain (above) is the man to do it.

Kane, 28, is yet to score in the Premier League this season after a £100million move to Manchester City failed to materialise, though he has six goals in other competitions.

Nuno said: “Of course after what has happened with Newcastle we expect them to have a very supportive crowd.

“We just have to ignore that, focus on our tasks and quieten the fans. For that you have to use your football. We have to control the game, play good, be dominant. And that will not be easy. With Harry, it is normal what people have been saying and I’m sure he is used to it.

“But we are relaxed. We know there is much more than goals with Harry in terms of what he does for the team. He is a fantastic player, one of the best – and the goals will come.

“I don’t see anything different about Harry and it is about realising that things will happen naturally.

“We have to provide things to happen as a team and a club.

“We have to know that sometimes you are on top of the world and sometimes not. But you always need support, especially from our fans.

“And I support him the same way I do with any other player – at training, with solutions that I think are better for them, I speak with them when I need to. There is no difference.”

Nuno is also hoping to be able to have his four South American players Giovani Lo Celso, Emerson Royal, Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero available for selection. After passing 100 days in charge, he added: “Our four players are travelling back as we speak from South America and will join us on Saturday, then we will see how they are.

“The reports we have are that they finished the games well after playing 90 minutes, Davinson Sanchez did not play.

“If we can, we will play the same XI as against Aston Villa, we were in a good place at that moment. In those 100 days there have been very happy days and not so happy days!”

And Nuno also spared a thought for opposite number Steve Bruce, whose 1,000th game as a manager will take place under a cloud of speculation that he will shortly be dismissed.

Nuno said: “I know Steve for a long time, we played against each other in the Championship. For him to achieve 1,000 games as a manager is extraordinary, I congratulate him. For sure it will not be easy for Steve, it is a difficult situation.”
