GO ON A VOYAGE OF DISCOVERIES
DISCOVERIES can give Jessica Harrington a new first – victory in a British Classic – by beating 13 opponents for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas (3.40) at Newmarket tomorrow.
Not only is Harrington a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner with Sizing John in 2017 but she has also been a potent force in Flat racing, winning five Group 1 races with Discoveries’ siblings Alpha Centauri and Alpine Star.
Mastercraftsman’s daughter Discoveries carried on the family tradition in her juvenile season, making her final start of the campaign with a three-quarterlength margin in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh last September.
The way Shane Foley’s mount powered home that afternoon suggested she would be in her element over a mile and Discoveries looks the type to continue her upward curve as a three-year-old.
Signing off for 2021 with a third in the Sun Chariot Stakes over Newmarket’s Rowley Mile last October, DREAMLOPER has plenty going for her in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes (3.00).
The Ed Walker-trained daughter of Lope De Vega came home strongly behind Saffron Beach and the additional furlong here is a definite plus.
A step up in distance – from a mile to 10 furlongs – should also benefit CRENELLE in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes (2.25).
After a promising debut third at Southwell on April Fool’s Day, Frankie
Dettori’s partner went two better over the Rowley Mile at the Craven meeting last time – with plenty more to come.
A second to Enemy at Musselburgh two weeks ago rates good form and DARK JEDI is the selection to go one better in the Betfair Daily Rewards Handicap (1.50).
At Hamilton Park, FORZA ORTA should progress for the ability to tackle a mile and five furlongs for the first time in the Patersons Of Greenoakhill Buttonhook Handicap (2.05).
Salisbury’s AJN Steelstock ‘Michael
O’brien Memorial’ City Bowl Handicap (2.40) is a good opportunity for course-and-distance scorer SPIRIT MIXER to get back to winning form after a reappearance fourth at the Wiltshire course 10 days ago.
