Kylie and Jason say yes to return to Neighbours for last episode
BY
NEIGHBOURS icons Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan have confirmed they will return to the Aussie soap for its grand finale episode.
The Ramsay Street soap, which first aired in 1985, will end in August after 37 years.
Show bosses have confirmed that Kylie and Jason, who shot to fame on the show in the late 80s, will star in a “fairytale ending”.
They were spotted filming at Pin Oak
Court in Vermont
South, a suburb of Melbourne.
The scenes are expected to appear in the final episode of the show, due to air in
Australia on August 1.
The show’s Twitter account shared a message from executive producer Jason
Herbison, saying: “We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale.”
Jason, now 53, played mulleted Scott Robinson until 1989.
Kylie, also 53, played mechanic Charlene Robinson until 1988.
Teasing her return, Kylie posted a photo showing half her Neighbours script with the caption: “Omg!!” Jason posted a picture of the other half.
Scott and Charlene’s wedding episode was watched by almost 20 million viewers when it was shown in the UK in 1988.
Kylie, who went on to become a global pop star, said she will be “forever grateful” for her time on the show, which also launched the careers of Hollywood actors Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth.
It has already been confirmed that Ian Smith will return for the finale as bumbling Harold Bishop.
He will be joined by original cast member Peter O’brien, who played Shane Ramsay.
Announcing the show’s final curtain after nearly 9,000 episodes, Channel 5 thanked fans for their “loyal support”.
