MARTIN SURE ‘WE’RE THREE OF THE BEST’

- BY RICHARD LATHAM

CHRIS MARTIN reckons the Robins’ three-man attack is becoming the most talked about strike force in the Championship.

By sharing all five goals against hapless Hull, Martin (above), Andi Weimann and Antoine Semenyo took their combined tally for the season to 42.

Wayne Rooney, no less, recently rated the trio as good as any in the division – and experienced centre-forward Martin believes such plaudits have been earned.

He said: “We have built up a very good relationship over the course of the season and it has been a real positive.

“Each of us brings something different to the table and our various attributes gel really well.

“Between us, we have pace, strength and imagination. We give the team the option of playing long, or short to feet.

Having Andi in the position just behind Antoine and myself, with his awareness of space and movement, is great.

“Defenders hate playing against Antoine because he can take them on either side with pace and power.

“It was great to finish our home programme with a really positive performance. While no one is getting carried away, there is every reason for encouragement looking ahead to next season.”

Weimann dominated the club’s Player of the Year awards before the game and then made it 22 goals – his best in a season by 10 – with a confident brace.

Semenyo burst through to make it 2-0 just past the half hour before Martin’s double.

Many Hull fans turned up in fancy dress intent on celebrating their Championship survival.

But the party turned into a wake, manager Shota Arveladze admitting: “The only positive came from our supporters.

“They stayed behind the team until the end. An apology is not sufficient and I can’t find the words to say to them.

“It was a terrible game, terrible result and terrible performance.”
