I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES
Rowett trusts in his Lionhearts as Millwall look to beat the odds
BOURNEMOUTH v MILLWALL
Championship: 12.30pm
BY IAN BAKER
GARY ROWETT is quietly confident of a Millwall miracle.
The Lions head into the final day three points off the play-offs and even if results elsewhere go their way they may still need to go goal crazy at Bournemouth.
The chances of a top-six spot for the south Londoners are so unlikely they are rated by bookmakers at 25/1.
But boss Rowett said: “It suits us just to keep it all quiet.
“It needed us to win and Sheffield United to slip up. Now of course with the big swing of goal difference on Luton they come into the reckoning as well, probably more so.
“But it still means someone’s got to slip up. We’ve got to do our business and once again we wait and see what happens.
“If other teams handle the pressure then it’s been a good season, but not quite top six. Anything other than that and it’s going to be an exciting end.
“We’ll see. We’ll stay pretty level-headed. We’ll be aware of all the
different permutations, like we were on Saturday.” Millwall are currently five goals behind the Blades, but two ahead of Luton, who both have three points more – and Rowett is ready to go for broke at the drop of a hat.
He said: “You have to be aware of what is going on elsewhere.
“I’ve heard a lot of managers say at this stage of the season that we don’t worry about other results, we just concentrate on ours. I understand that, everyone to a certain degree does.
“You have to know what’s happening around you because at the end of the game you could find out if you’d scored one more goal you’d have been in the play-offs.
“I think everyone knows roughly what’s happening. I would always prefer to be armed with all the information so I could try to make the best in-game decisions as possible.
“It’s not always easy to do that, but if having the scores live doesn’t deter too much from your game plan then that’s the best scenario.
“We were 1-0 up on Saturday against Peterborough, we had plans to go and chase more goals if we needed to.
“We did, we got another couple, and we’ll have similar plans against a Bournemouth side that I’m sure will pose a much different test.”
