IT’S the biggest event on Irish TV and now the Toy Show is set to be an all singing all dancing musical as producers bring it to the stage.
Toy Show The Musical which will run from December 10 at the Convention Centre in Dublin and promises to bring the magical experience of Ireland’s much-loved festive special to life for the first time.
Told through the eyes of a child, it will tell the story of one family and their adventures on Toy Show night.
The production was announced yesterday by RTE, describing it as “a mischievous, musical experience for the whole family where the children are in charge and the adults get to be kids again”.

Tubridy won’t have a part on stage.
In a statement he joked: “Now I know what you’re thinking.
Ryan the Toy man, you’re a fine dancer!
And yes, it’s true, I can hold a tune too. But
I’m not in it.
“I will be using my skills to great effect on The Late Late Toy Show, the regular one, on the TV in November, which will be bigger and better than ever before.
“So, how about we leave the theatre stage to the theatre actors. And wishing the very best of luck to all of the brilliant team involved there.” The Christmas Toy Show has been the most popular programme on Irish TV for decades and marks the official start of the festive period.
Last year it pulled in 1.56 million viewers, up on the 2020 figure of 1.55 million.
The musical is created by the show’s producers Jane Murphy and Katherine Drohan. They said in a joint statement: “We are thrilled to honour the Toy Show and all of the joy and magic it inspires across Ireland every year with this new creation.”
Also joining the creative team are director Seimi Campbell while Grammy-nominated composer and performer Ruthanne Cunningham is the songwriter for the show.
Award-winning playwright Lisa Tierneykeogh, whose recent work This Beautiful Village was commissioned by the Abbey Theatre, is also part of the team.
