HOW about this for a little Welsh petal…
A two-year-old girl in traditional dress hands the Princess of Wales a bunch of flowers on a royal trip to Swansea yesterday.
William and Kate visited the country for the first time since the Queen’s death, as youngsters flocked for a “cwtch” – hug – and a smile.
The new Prince of Wales plans to ditch the pomp witnessed at his father’s investiture when his title is formally recognised.
William’s ceremony will be in keeping with the King’s own coronation and vision of a modern monarchy.
During his father’s elaborate investiture as Prince of Wales in 1969 at Caernarfon Castle, the Queen placed a coronet on his head.
A palace spokesman said: “Right now they are focused on deepening the trust and
respect they have with the people of Wales over time.”
The royal couple also met Theo Crompton, four, who waited four hours in Holyhead on Anglesey, North Wales. Mum Rebecca, 35, said: “We were on the way to school when I changed my mind. Now he has met the future king. Today is history.”
William and Kate lived on the island for three years after they first married when William was an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.
Yesterday a royal source said: “The Prince and the Princess of Wales just want to get on with the job.
“His vision for his future fits with his father’s, with a slimmed-down monarchy fit for the modern age at the heart of their decisions.”
One source suggested the date for investiture could be June 2, the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II’S coronation.
