TROSSARD: CREATE CHANCES, I’LL SCORE
LEANDRO TROSSARD wrote a little bit of Anfield history with his spectacular treble for Brighton.
He becomes only the third visiting player to score a Premier League hat-trick at the famous old stadium, after Peter Ndlovu for Coventry in 1995, and Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin in 2009, who actually scored four.
It was also Brighton’s first-ever Premier League hat-trick and Trossard (celebrating his first goal, right) revealed it was the perfect response to a demand from his new manager.
Seagulls boss Roberto De Zerbi was only appointed during the international break, and wasted no time in contacting Trossard while he was away on Belgium duty, with a message bluntly stating he needs more goals from the striker.
“He said he was happy with me, how I already played, but that he wanted more goals from me,” revealed Trossard,
“And I said, ‘If you get me the chances, I will score them!’.
“It’s brilliant that I could score three and especially that we got a point from it as well.”
Trossard has been a popular forward since he joined Brighton, but his goals tally of five, seven and nine in his first three seasons has been underwhelming.
However, the Belgian has five already this season, and believes it is a simple matter of maths.
He added: “I get more chances at the moment than before and I know in front of the goal I can finish those chances.
“If you’re on a team and get four chances a game it’s easier to score than if you only get one chance a game and you miss that one – it’s different.
“I’m really happy with that and the team. We’re dominant, we try to keep the ball and create chances. Three goals at Anfield – it’s there for everyone to see.”
