ITALY’S new prime minister Giorgia Meloni loves Irish artists such as Sinead O’connor and The Chieftains, according to her blog.

She also revealed her passion for The Cranberries in the personal account that she wrote several years ago.

Far-right leader Meloni, 45, was last week positioned to be the first female prime minister of Italy, the EU’S third-biggest economy.

A little-known blog that she posted has re-emerged from the 1990s to show the populist leader in Italy loves fantasy fiction and Irish music.

The blog was hosted on Yahoo’s now defunct website Geocities, which was a hit in the early internet era, with more than 38 million user-written pages.

Meloni’s blog was small, composed of texts and links, but some of it was preserved by the Internet Archive website. It holds 739 billion internet pages in its digital museum called the Wayback Machine.

She was 21 in 1998 – the year she became a councillor in Rome – when she revealed that she is a fan of Irish music.

Meloni called herself “Khy-ry, the little dragon of Undernet” and wrote: “I’m teaching myself to play the guitar, but it’s not going well. I’m also trying to sing.

“I listen to a lot of different music, the Chieftains, Loreena Mckennit, Sinead O’connor and the Cranberries.”

Meloni also wrote in her 1998 blog: “I graduated from the linguistic high school and I studied at university.

“In life, I would like everything possible. Helping others, too, seeking the community of purpose and thought that exists somewhere, I know.

“My interests are fantasy books [of course The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien is my favourite book], philosophy books [I love F Nietzsche], horror books especially Stephen King.”

Political analysts expect Meloni’s party to form the country’s most right-wing government since World War II after a stunning general election victory.

They say her Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’italia) is rooted in a neo-fascist movement and is expected to form a coalition with the right-wing League of Matteo Salvini and the centre-right Forza Italia of ex-prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.
