KOLO: FAN ANGER IS JUSTIFIED

- Cornick 11, Adebayo 53 BY LUKE MCGOVERN

KOLO TOURE admitted fans have “a right to be unhappy” after Wigan were booed off following a second home defeat to Luton in five days.

With just two points from his first seven league games in charge, the Latics remain bottom of the Championship.

And after Elijah Adebayo echoed his FA Cup heroics from midweek by scoring again at the DW Stadium, the home supporters vented their anger.

“The fans have a right to be unhappy and it’s my job to make them happy and to fix that,” said boss Toure (above). “Everything we do is for the fans, and when they’re happy, we’re all happy. We must keep working hard. Keep working in training and making sure our new players are involved more.”

The opener came when Steven Caulker, on his home debut for Wigan, was dispossessed deep inside his own half by Harry Cornick, who coolly finished.

Despondency grew among the home faithful as Luton dominated a lot of the ball in the early stages. Adebayo nearly doubled their lead when he got in down the left, flicking the ball over Caulker, before flashing his effort across the face of the goal.

Wigan improved as the half wore on and thought they had levelled only for Ashley Fletcher’s headed effort to be ruled offside.

Luton sealed victory on 53 minutes, with Cornick involved again, crossing from the right for Adebayo to cap a brilliant week in Wigan for the travelling Hatters fans.

Rob Edwards’ side now sit just outside the play-off places on goal difference.

Asked about hopes for the rest of the season, Edwards said: “We want to be in the mix going into the last couple of games. We have to keep knocking at the door.”
