Jess a quickie...

-

I was sad to see the NHS find itself in another crisis this week – with ambulance services now under threat of an unprecedented and terrifying new blow...

Katie Price wants to be a paramedic. Yep, really.

To be fair, this latest career plan could actually be her true calling as she was training as a nurse before her modelling career took off (and took her top with it).

But wouldn’t she be more help on lifeboats?

After all, she comes fitted with her own in-built flotation devices.

Ireland shone bright in the Oscar nominations but the news wasn’t as good elsewhere. Once more the Best Director category outdid itself with snubs for...

1. James Cameron for Avatar: The Way of Water

2. Baz Luhrmann for Elvis

3. All women for... not having a Y chromosome, presumably.

“Fun” fact: Since the first ceremony, this category’s given out more than twice as many nominations to Willys than to women. And I only mean the name Willy, but it’s true either way.

What a bunch of Richards.

Meanwhile... surprise Best Picture nominees Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water are in for a real dogfight.

Just two sequels have ever won the battle for the gong –

The Godfather Part II in 1975, and Lord of

The Rings: The

Return of The King in

2004.

The original Top Gun wasn’t even nominated (Platoon won its year).

And Avatar was beaten by The Hurt Locker – the passion project of James Cameron’s (third) ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow.

Still it could have been worse – he could have been beaten by one of his other ex-wives in the industry.

Ex-wife two Gale Anne Hurd had produced the only much-loathed Marvel movie, the Incredible Hulk, around that same time.

And ex-wife four Linda Hamilton was in Holy Water that year – a movie about four men stealing a truckload of

Viagra. Losing to The Hurt Locker doesn’t sting as bad now, eh, James?

She held the record for most UK number-one singles by a British female solo artist – until being overtaken by Jess Glynne in 2018. And that’s despite that infamous performance at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert. Bravo.
