CUP RUN IS GREAT, BUT I’VE ALREADY WON MY BIGGEST BATTLE

- FA Cup fourth round: 3pm TAYLOR: PREM WILL SUIT US JUST FINE

CHARLIE TAYLOR says Burnley have already shown Premier League potential – but insists there is still room for improvement.

Vincent Kompany’s side have opened up a five-point cushion at the top of the Championship table and an 18-point buffer to thirdplaced Watford.

Promotion now looks only a matter of time with Kompany having overseen a huge turnover of players in the summer and changed the playing style at Turf Moor.

And with a young, exciting group backed by a sprinkling of experience, Taylor believes there is still more to come from a side that has lost just two league matches this season.

The Clarets break from their relentless second-tier programme, where they have won eight on the bounce, to travel to League One promotion-chasers Ipswich Town in the FA Cup fourth round today.

But it’s an instant return to the top flight, rather than a cup run, which is the talk of Turf Moor.

And Taylor, 29, sees no reason why, should Burnley finish the job over the coming months, they can’t make their mark on the Premier League.

The centre-back (above) said: “As unbelievable as we have done so far this season there is still room for improvement.

”We have a hugely talented group and a lot of young players in their first season in English football and in their early 20s who will only improve.

“As much as I have always said the step up to the Premier League is huge, I see so much improvement and development in the lads we have signed. “From my point of view there is absolutely no reason why we couldn’t compete.

“We went to Old Trafford (losing 2-0 to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup) and we gave a great account of ourselves and on another night the game could have gone a different way.

“We went to Bournemouth and played brilliantly and beat them in the FA Cup so there is nothing telling us that we can’t kick on and step up another level.”
