Eurovision host reckons Ireland is set to qualify

EUROVISION host Rylan Clark said he reckons Ireland will qualify to compete in the grand final of this year’s song contest.

Ireland will perform in the first half of the show which takes place in Liverpool on May 9. The final will then take place on May 13.

And Rylan reckons Ireland is in with a chance of qualifying this year alongside Israel and Albania – despite Ireland not yet picking its entry for the annual competition.

The star – who is co-host of the handover and allocation draw – said on Eurovisioncast on BBC Sounds:

“Tonight there’s been some good results for a few countries who haven’t had that opportunity for a while and haven’t qualified for a while, there are some good positions for countries that have maybe fallen by the wayside in previous years.

“It’s tricky for Ireland because I’ll be honest, I think Ireland was robbed last year! Brooke [Scullion] was amazing and I think Ireland, Israel and Albania will be in the grand final this year.”

On Friday night, a special Eurosong Late Late Show will let the public decide who will represent Ireland.

The six acts who will compete are ADGY with Too Good for your Love, Connolly with Midnight Summer Night, Wild Youth with We Are One, Leila Jane with Wild, K Muni & ND (Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare) with Down In The Rain and Public Image Limited with Hawaii.

Viewers will be able to cast their vote and the winner will be decided by a combination of that along with an international and national jury. Host Ryan Tubridy said: “This Friday is going to have a big, bright and sparkly line-up of acts.

“Big stars, big numbers and big expectations because this could well be Ireland’s chance to reclaim their title as Eurovision winners.

“So, I would say get ready to party and join us for what should be quite the extravaganza.”
