Finding the heel deal

Jojo Moyes

- Michael Joseph BY LYNNE HYLAND

From the bestselling author of Me Before You comes this captivating new blockbuster, centred around two very different women whose lives collide by chance, changing them both forever.

Londoner Sam is down at heel, struggling with a depressed husband, a stuttering career and a severe case of middle-aged frump.

Nisha is a glamorous American globetrotter with all the perks of a trophy wife. Or at least she was.

Nisha’s pampered existence implodes in a single day when her tycoon husband cuts her off without warning. She finds herself stranded and penniless, locked out of her five-star hotel penthouse, designer wardrobe and joint bank account, without her passport, and an ocean away from her beloved son.

To compound her misery, she discovers she doesn’t even have the shoes she was standing up in after Sam accidentally picks up the wrong bag at the gym.

The mix-up leads to a pair of Louboutin heels ending up on Sam’s feet, giving her a lift both physically and metaphorically. Suddenly, all Nisha can think of is reclaiming her beloved shoes, and everything they represent about her old life.

What follows next is an irrepressible romp of survival, revenge, redemption and dark comedy but, most of all, it’s an ode to the life-affirming power of friendship, family and fashion.

Someone Else’s Shoes is a change of pace from the bittersweet tenderness of Me Before You but superb in its own way. Once you step into the lives of Sam and Nisha, you’ll be racing through the pages, breathless to find out what happens next.

It’s a sassy strut of a novel, full of twists and high-adrenaline moments, but ultimately it’s got heart too. The characters are relatable, memorable and engaging, and you’ll be rooting for your favourites to end up walking tall.
