THE family of slain mobster David Byrne have paid tribute to him on the seventh anniversary of his death at the Regency Hotel.
Byrne’s parents and siblings left floral tributes and blue balloons with his pictures on them at the scene of where he was gunned down while attending a boxing weigh-in event in February 2016.
Blue balloons were also left by his grave at Mount Jerome cemetery in south Dublin.
Byrne was blasted to death as he attended the Clash of the Clans boxing event alongside drugs cartel boss Daniel Kinahan at the Regency Hotel on February 5, 2016.
Each year since, his family has paid a visit to the hotel on February 5 to leave tributes in his honour.
And yesterday was to be no exception as a series of floral tributes were hung up on railings outside the hotel.
One tribute from his parents, convicted fraudster James ‘Jaws’ Byrne and mum Sadie, described David, who was a leading figure in the Kinahan cartel, as “our beautiful blue-eyed son”.
Both James and Sadie sat through almost 10 weeks of evidence at the
Special Criminal Court recently, as Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch stood trial for their son’s murder.
Hutch, 59, remains behind bars as he awaits the verdict of that trial, which is due to be delivered on April 17.
Referencing that in their tribute to their son yesterday, Byrne’s parents added: “Hopefully we will get justice for you in April. The justice you deserve.”
Their message also stated: “Our family chain is broken and our life will never be the same.
Love and miss you so much. Your Ma and Da.”
In another floral tribute left at the Regency site yesterday, Byrne’s older brother James wrote: “You are always on my mind and forever in my heart.”
In an earlier post on Instagram, James claimed his brother had nothing to do with the Kinahan cartel. He wrote: “You know how we all feel about not having you here with us.
“All our lives were destroyed that day and some still feel that pain today coz some c***s want to come along and play God with your life.”
Writing more about his brother, James added: “You had nothing to do with the Kinahans, you got a raw deal that day bro.”
In other floral tributes left at the scene of the Regency shooting, his family stated: “We love you to the moon and back.”
