TV star Anna’s gamble paid off

- EXCLUSIVE By Showbiz Editor SANDRA MALLON

FORMER Virgin Media star Anna Daly has said leaving the station was a gamble that paid off.

The presenter, 46, announced her shock departure from Ireland AM in 2021 after 12 years as co-host.

She told us: “You need to know when to exit and for me, I needed flexibility to work with other brands.

“I look back and think I wouldn’t have done Hospital Live, which was an amazing show for RTE and Future Island that followed on from that, if I hadn’t taken a gamble. I knew I had enough on air hours, I had done Ireland AM for 12 years. I felt I had enough air miles to take on other projects. I was just ready, and Simon [Delaney] was as well.”

Mum-of-three Anna was speaking ahead of appearing on RTE’S High Road, Low Road, which airs on RTE One tomorrow at 7pm.

The episode sees Anna and James Kavanagh travel to Lanzarote.

While one celeb sets off on their private catamaran and later relaxes in their private “swim up” pool the other travels budget-style and cuddles goats. Anna said: “I watched this show with that cynical TV head on me going ‘They obviously know where they are going. They know what to pack’.

“The reality is you actually do stand at the airport. They give you loads of baggage, never ending suitcases and they tell you to pack everything.

“From hiking boots, outdoor gear to swimwear so you genuinely have packed for any holiday possible.

“It’s the most bizarre packing I’ve ever done. I think I brought three suitcases.

“I found out where I was going was when I was in the airport in the middle of the night at like 5am.”
