Wild Youth’s Whelan fave for Glitterball
WILD Youth singer David Whelan is now favourite to win Dancing With The Stars.
He is 7/4 favourite with Boylesports having shortened from 3/1 after wowing judges on the RTE One show’s opening night on Sunday.
On a programme packed with salsas, sequins and sensational performances, it was David’s slip that nearly ruined his night.
But alongside dance partner Salome Chachua, he quickly bounced back and put in one of the displays of the night, scoring an impressive 23 for his top-notch tango.
Brian O’keeffe, spokesperson for
Boylesports, said: “The opening night of Dancing with the Stars was one to remember as the sequin-clad dancers dazzled the audience.
“Katja Mia, Blu Hydrangea and Laura Fox all impressed with their first dances, but David Whelan was the star of the show according to punters.”
SMASHED
The highest score of the night went to Belfast-based Hydrangea.
Following in the footsteps of fellow drag artist Panti
Bliss, who competed last year, Blu scored an impressive 24 points from the hard-toplease judges and has been cut from 6/1 to 4/1 to lift the Glitterball trophy.
Six O’clock Show host Katja Mia smashed the samba in the opening performance of the night and is an 8/1 shot.
Fellow TV and radio star Laura Fox scored 21 points despite her legs being “a little out of sync” and is 3/1 second fave behind David.
Eileen Dunne remains the outsider as far as the betting goes and while the newsreader impressed her legion of fans with an American smooth, she remains an outsider at 50/1 to go all the way.
Rory Cowan, who sat bottom of the leaderboard with 11 points is a 33/1 shot.
Others to watch out for are Tiktok sensation Miriam Mullins at 5/1 and ex-jockey Davy Russell who is 12/1.
