GARDAI are questioning a teen suspected of helping to hide a gun that was taken from hitman Tristan Sherry and used to shoot him.

The 18-year-old, who was known to the assassin’s target Jason Hennessy Snr, was arrested yesterday morning.

He is the fourth person to be arrested as part of the probe into the attack which claimed the lives of Sherry, who was 26, and 48-year-old Hennessy Snr, who died in hospital last week.

Officers suspect the teen helped to hide a semi-automatic weapon after it was taken off Sherry was used to shoot him in the head in Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, West Dublin, on Christmas Eve.

Gardai are understood to still be hunting for the weapon but their enquiries and CCTV footage indicates the teenager may been involved in having it removed from the restaurant.

A spokesman said: “Officers have arrested and detained a male under section 30 Offences Against the State

Act, 1939, as amended. He is being questioned at a Garda station in West Dublin.

“This male is the fourth person arrested as part of this inquiry. Investigations are ongoing.”

Detectives are also understood to be preparing to make arrest more believed to have been involved in the hiding of the weapon – as well as the two murders.

It comes as the Irish Mirror has established the funerals of Sherry and Hennessy have been delayed - with their bodies still at the State morgue.

Sources Hennessy’s will be first - but it may now be at the weekend or early next week.

The service for Sherry will take place next week after an independent postmortem was to take place on his body.

Gardai are preparing a major security operation for the funerals as fears mount of further violence mount. Ahead of his funeral, Hennessy’s daughter paid tribute to him on social media.

Posting publicly on Facebook Jade Hennessy said: “I honestly can’t wrap my head around it da, you literally gave your life for your family and so many others.

“There’s not a lot of men that can say that. You actually did it. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure the world knows what you did and what you gave up.

“The truth will be told and I’ll make sure of it. You are a hero and that’s what I’ll make sure everyone knows.”

In a separate post she added: “You were the best person to walk this planet, the best person in the world, the kindest person who would do anything for anyone.

“The best neighbour, the best friend I’ve ever had, the best granda, the best da that ever lived, the hardest working man that never missed a day of work.

Nobody in this world will ever come close to comparing what you mean to us.

“I’m truly devastated. You protected your kids and your grandkids and your wife – your whole world.

“I’m so broken that we have to even try continue without you.

“Everything you lived and gave your life for in this world, you are their real life hulk hero, our superhero, not just a hero the brightest superhero in the sky we miss and love you so so much.”

Her posts come after another relative, a daughter-in-law, also claimed that Hennessy died protecting his family that night.

Sherry was knifed more than 30 times and shot in the head after he barged his way into the popular restaurant, and shot Hennessy in the neck.

He was left critically injured from the shooting and died in hospital last week – sparking concerns an already tense situation could now get worse.

Sources say there are real fears that an all-out gangland war could erupt in West Dublin.
