Family’s pain has ‘begun in earnest’ as Reailtin loses fight

A BRAVE girl who was given just two months to live after she was born has died a week short of her eighth birthday.

Reailtin Fleming, whose name means Little Star, passed away surrounded by her heartbroken parents John and Joan and brother Rian on Monday night.

She was deaf and blind and born with Trisomy Mosaic 9 and Dandy-walker Syndrome which means she had holes in her heart.

Reailtin was so ill last August that her family from Kildalkey, Co Meath, didn’t think she would live to see Christmas again so organised a special one for her.

They put up all the festive decorations including a Christmas tree, Santa Claus came with all the presents and they even had a special festive dinner.

But the courageous little girl lived to see another real Christmas so the family celebrated a second time on December 25.

It will be a celebration of Reailtin’s life not a mourning DAD JOHN ON HER FUNERAL SERVICE

INCREDIBLE

Doctors had told the family soon after her birth that Reailtin would be lucky to live for a month or two.

Yet the child with her incredible will to live defied all the medical odds stacked against her.

Her dad John told the Meath Chronicle: “For her doting mum, her loving big brother and the proudest of proud fathers, whilst utterly relieved that her lifeforce is no longer in pain, our pain has now begun in earnest.

“Reailtin will be reposing at her home today and Thursday and she will be cremated by water possibly on Friday at a time to be confirmed.

“All are welcome to what will be a celebration of her life, not a mourning.”

The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be given to the local St Vincent de Paul or Lauralynn children’s hospice.
