Robinson hails his loan swoop for big money Korean ace from Celts

ST MIRREN last night sealed a loan deal for Celtic star Hyeokkyu Kwon.

Saints boss Stephen Robinson has captured the South Korean until the end of the season after discussions with Parkhead counterpart Brendan Rodgers (inset).

The 22-year-old has been unable to break into the

Celtic top team since his switch last summer on a five-year deal from

Busan I-park.

Robinson said: “He’s a player that comes highly recommended. Celtic were very keen for him to come to us which is a complement to the coaching staff here.

“He’s played a lot of games in South Korea and was signed by Celtic for big money.

“It was an area we needed to strengthen in midfield and, with Keanu [Baccus] away at the Asian Cup, it was important that we strengthened there.

“We believe that he [Hyeokkyu] will come in and add that strength. He breaks up play really well and he can start play really well for us as well.

“I’ve had some good conversations with Brendan Rodgers about him and we’re delighted to have him in.”

As Kwon departs, Celtic are still hunting new recruits with a deal set to be sealed for Rapid Vienna winger Nicolas Kuhn.

The 24-year-old German is on the verge of a £2.5 million move from the Austrians with discussions at an advanced stage.

Celtic have also recalled youngster Adam Montgomery after a loan stint at Fleetwood.

The left-back, 21, signed for ex-hoops captain Scott Brown, but made just six appearances having been hindered by injuries.

Meanwhile, Celtic have appointed Swedish coach Elena Sadiku as Fran Alonso’s replacement of the women’s team.

The current head coach of Everton’s WSL academy will assume the role from Monday with David Haley taking the team for tomorrow’s first SWPL game of the year against Montrose.

Haley, who was Alonso’s No.2, will remain to assist Sadiku. She said: “This is such a great day for me and my family, to join a club of Celtic’s standing and stature at such an exciting time for our women’s team.”
