Could Kier be a Red leader?

-

KIERAN MCKENNA has hit his first bumps in the road as Ipswich manager after taking just four points from their last five games in the Championship.

But the Tractor Boys are still three points clear in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

And after learning his trade in the coaching hierarchy at Old Trafford, Mckenna is now flourishing as a manager in his own right at Portman Road.

If he goes on to seal back-to-back promotions in is first job, we will have to ask the question.

Is he a future Manchester United manager?

At some point in the years ahead, United might be well-served by appointing a head coach who knows the club, its values and its traditions inside out.

What Mckenna (above) has done with Ipswich is not just about results – although they speak for themselves.

It’s been about improving players, entertainment, identifying a way of playing football and sticking to your principles – most of the things the

Red Devils seem to have mislaid.

Look at Ipswich’s attendances – selling out every week is no mean feat.

The 28,000 supporters who snap up every ticket can’t all be wrong.

NEWS of former England manager Sven-goran Eriksson’s diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer was shocking and upsetting for everyone in football.

Although I don’t recall ever playing against one of his teams, I always had the impression that Sven was a gentleman who always had time to discuss the game.

I send him only love, strength and warmth for the road ahead.

CAN’T wait to entertain Dorking Wanderers, and their colourful chairman/manager Marc White, in the FA Trophy at Macclesfield this weekend.

I’m looking forward to picking his brain about making the step up from the seventh tier, where we are now at Macc, to the National League, where Dorking are fighting hard to establish themselves in a fiercely competitive division.

If you haven’t seen his brutal post-match interview after his side got knocked out of the FA Cup at Horsham earlier in the season on Youtube yet, treat yourself. It went viral and you’ll soon find out why!
