THE two funerals of the men who died as a result of the Christmas Eve gun attack at a steakhouse are set for this week – and are giving gardai separate security headaches.

The funerals will take place three weeks after the attack that claimed the lives of Jason Hennessy and Tristan Sherry.

Sources have told the Irish Mirror that gardai expect the service for gunman Tristan Sherry, 26, to take place in Finglas, North Dublin, as early as today.

And we have also learned that it is likely the funeral of shooting victim Jason Hennessy Snr, 48, will take place in Blanchardstown this week.

Sources say gardai now expect Hennessy’s wake to be held in his native Corduff before his funeral on either

Friday or Saturday. Sources say gardai will mount major security operations for each funeral – as well as afterwards.

They say there are fears volatile associates of Hennessy, who was a talented boxer in his youth before he became involved in crime in his 30s, may try to attack targets after his funeral.

A source said: “He had some very dangerous associates and the fear is that they will do something after his funeral.

“There will be a major operation on the day, as well as for the Sherry funeral. Nobody is taking any chances.”

Hennessy died in the Mater Hospital days after he was shot in Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown.

He was blasted several times in the attack and rushed to hospital. There had been hopes that he would survive his injuries, but his condition deteriorated over the New Year and he died in January 4.

Sherry, who was a native of Finglas, was attacked at the restaurant and died at the nearby Connolly Hospital.

His body has now been released to his family who paid tribute to him in a post on RIP.IE at the weekend.

They said: “Passed away tragically in Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown.

“Predeceased by his dad Mano, his nanny Ann and grandad Willie Sherry.

“Tristan will be very sadly missed by his heartbroken mam Mary and sister Savanna, beloved daughter Aria, aunts Yvonne, Priscilla, Leona and a very wide circle of friends.” Four males have now been charged as part of the Garda investigation into Sherry’s death.

Three, including a 17-year-old who appeared in court, have been charged with his murder.

David Amah, 18, of Hazel Grove, Portrane Road, Donabate, Dublin, and 22-year-old Michael Andrecut, with an address at Sheephill Avenue in Dublin, have also been charged with murder.

Wayne Deegan, 25, of Linnetsfield Avenue, Phibblestown, Dublin, was charged with producing a knife as a weapon during an offence, assault causing harm to Sherry, and violent disorder by using or threatening to use violence with Amah and Andrecut.

The three men will appear again in court later this month.
