INCEST monster Josef Fritzl could soon be freed, with his lawyer saying he could go into a care home.

Fritzl, 88, was jailed for life in 2009 for keeping daughter Elisabeth locked in his cellar as his sex slave for 24 years.

It is understood that he is now suffering from dementia and authorities believe he is no longer a danger.

Under his parole terms, he is eligible for release this year.

His lawyer

Astrid Wagner said: “I am already in the process of obtaining a conditional discharge for him. If the application is approved, which I assume will be the case, I would like to ensure that he gets a place in a home for frail people.”

Elisabeth vanished in 1984 aged 18 but Fritzl’s crimes only emerged in April 2008, when he let her take their sick daughter Kerstin to hospital. The teenager was so malnourished that Elisabeth was arrested.

She told police about her ordeal, locked in a

SHOCK cellar under the family home in Amstetten, Austria. Fritzl had fathered seven children with her in a case that shocked the world.

Fritzl admitted rape, false imprisonment, manslaughter by negligence and incest, and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years.

Fritzl, who kept Elisabeth in a soundproofed dungeon, had worked as a librarian in Krems-stein jail, Austria’s most secure psychiatric jail.

He changed his name to Mayrhoff after an attack by other inmates.

Of the seven children with his daughter, one died at birth.

Three were brought up by Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie, who was unaware of his crimes.

Three were imprisoned in the basement with Elisabeth.

She and her relatives have no contact with him.

Now 57, she lives under an alias in a secret location, with the children he fathered.

Fritzl’s former home, which he used as a guest house, has been turned into flats.
