Greg gutted time on Six O’clock gig over

- BY MIKIE O’LOUGHLIN

GREG O’shea said he was

“gutted” to leave The Six O’clock Show after a year at the helm with Karen Koster.

The former Love Island winner stepped away from the Virgin Media magazine show in November after his contract expired and she announced she was leaving.

He also lifted the lid on his relationship with Jeanni Mulder, saying she got the seal of approval from his mum after spending Christmas together.

Greg said: “I am gutted. I bumped into some of the producers and researchers from the show and it brought it all back.

“I was hanging out with Karen Koster from Monday to Thursday and Grainne Seoige every Friday.

“It was a baptism of fire and I was thrown into the deep end. That

ITEM was invaluable. I am taking presenting a daily TV show on a national station and putting it under my belt.

“Who knows what’s coming next, but I will always cherish those 12 months.”

Asked if he was pushed or if it was his decision to leave, the Limerick man explained: “It was a mixed decision.

“Karen decided to retire from The Six O’clock Show and then my year’s contract was up.

“Because I am 28 and I am only getting started I spoke to the powers that be and we decided it was best for me to move on.

“It is good for someone who is at a more mature stage of their career. I need to challenge myself and try out new things.” Greg had a varied year on The Six O’clock Show.

He said: “My biggest interview and the one I got most nervous about was with former president Mary Robinson.

“I interviewed her about Gaza and Ukraine, it was a very serious one. A very fun interview I loved was with Gok Wan.

“He complimented me and said I was a great presenter, which meant a lot to me.”

Greg and Karen were replaced by Brian Dowling and Katja Mia who is competing on Dancing With The Stars.

He said: “I heard she was class. I am also supporting Laura Fox, she is a great friend of mine.” Greg praised his successors for bringing a new energy to The Six O’clock Show.

He said: “The energy is high. It is a big difference from me and Karen. Karen was there for 20 years and she knew exactly what she was doing. I was the new fresh face.

“Brian Dowling is an established presenter and Katja did amazing things on Ireland AM.

“I see the vibe they are going for and I think it will be great.”

Greg and Jeanni went public with their romance in September.

He said: “We did it with a twoperson bungee jump she sent me just before we started dating.

“We were doing loads of stuff together and all my friends had met her, so what were we hiding?

“We just did it and it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.

“The mammy loves her. She spent Christmas with me this year, so that was big. We went skiing with my mom and my dad, so that was good craic.”
