A COUPLE have been banned for life from owning American Bully dogs after admitting their parts in having the pets’ ears cut.

Susan Douglas and Michael Lambert of Rathnew, Co Wicklow pleaded guilty to offences under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.

The two pups were discovered by ISPCA Chief Inspector Conor Dowling at the defendants’ house on December 15, 2021.

Mr Dowling told the court it was apparent that the ears of the pups had been removed.

Douglas was fined €500 and Lambert was fined €2,500 by Judge David Kennedy. They were ordered to jointly pay €1,026.55 ISPCA costs and €2,460 prosecution costs.

MET Eireann’s latest snow and ice warnings could finally expire today after -8C temperatures hit some areas this week.

A Status Yellow ice and low temperature alert is to end at midday.

It included warnings of severe frost, icy stretches, and hazardous travelling conditions for the entire country. A separate Status Yellow snow and ice warning for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo is in place until 6pm today.

A low air temperature of -6.3C was recorded in Moore Park, Co Cork, on Tuesday and a low of -7.4C was reached at Thomastown in Co Kilkenny on Monday. Modelling predicted a real-feel low of -8C in the east of the country due to the wind chill factor. A car ended up on its roof in Gleno, Co Antrim, yesterday and gulls in Dublin walked around a frozen pond in St Stephen’s Green. Drivers in the Wicklow Mountains struggled with widespread ice.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Over the weekend, it will become milder with wet and windy weather at times.”
