Blast from the past
Classic looks from 1990s and noughties set this year’s trends
Model Kate Moss
FASHION is taking a millennial turn, a glance at the latest collections reveals.
It’s back to the late 1990s, and early 2000s, with classics like the little black dress, as worn by Kate Moss, and zip-top sweaters, vest tops, flares and gilets are all in the stores.
Snuggly cable knits, sporty jackets, and statement trench coats – such as Dunnes Gallery (€60) – will keep you warm and add chic to any look.
The Sweater Shop pink merino cowl neck Aran sweater (€125) is perfect with jeans, trousers or over a statement skirt.
Marks and Spencer’s Goodmove collection is designed with a palette of vibrant colours.
The coral blue Goodmove puffer coat is available for €85, the leggings are €42 and the sports bra is €23,
STRIPES
Knit and stripes are another nod to the 2000s.
The cable stripe zip-up jumper from Dunnes Stores (€25) is a perfect piece for the office or Sunday brunch and will keep you cosy in the cold snap.
The sexy LBD makes a welcome return, with the velvet fleet sleeve mini-dress from Oxendale (€210).
The mohair coat from Avoca (€495) is cut to a fitted silhouette with a collarless neckline that exudes timeless glamour.
F&F at Tesco’s cream Borg gilet (€38) has a Spice Girls’ vibe, while River Island’s red stripe textured-knit cardigan (€52) is Meg Ryan levels of wholesome.
Flares – the jean of the era – are in Penneys for just €20. The TK MAXX pink and orange floral dress (€39.99) has a grunge feel.
Penneys standout piece so far is its teal mini skirt, blazer and waistcoat set, for just €52 altogether.
