A TEENAGER charged with violent disorder in the restaurant where gunman Tristan Sherry was killed has been granted bail.

Jonas Kabangu, 18, was brought before Blanchardstown District Court on Wednesday morning charged with the offence on Christmas Eve.

Sherry, 26, died from “blunt force trauma to the head” in Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin, after shooting Jason Hennessy Snr, who died in hospital 11 days later.

Hennessy, 48, had been having dinner with family and friends before the gun attack.

Garda Aine Doherty gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of Kabangu and said he was arrested on Wednesday at 9.25am and charged by Sergeant David Sharkey later that day. Gda Doherty said the teen made “no reply” after caution.

Judge David Mchugh granted an application not to have the teen’s address reported as Gda Doherty said there are “safety and security concerns” and a potential for retaliation attacks.

During a bail application, Gda Doherty handed in to the judge a list of nine names of associates of Kabangu that the teen is to have no contact with, among other conditions.

DECEASED some of the conditions, Kabangu’s solicitor Tertiu Van Eeden asked that his client sign on one day a week as “he is not a flight risk”.

He added: “This alleged incident happened over a month ago and he presented himself to the Garda station.

“He went for a meal and it is not his fault some other party entered the restaurant and

put him in the position he is allegedly in.” Mr Van Eeden said Kabangu intends to “fully contest the charge”.

Judge Mchugh remanded the accused on bail on his own bond of €100 subject on the conditions that he sign on twice a week at a Garda station not to be identified in the media, be contactable by mobile phone 24 hours a day and obey a curfew of 11pm to 6am at an address not to be reported for security reasons.

The judge also ordered Kabangu to stay away from an address in the

Corduff area and to have no contact with the nine persons named on the court file.

The judge adjourned the case until a later date for DPP directions.

Legal aid was granted after the court heard the teen, who did not address the court during the short hearing, resides with his parents and is not working.

Four other men, including a minor, have been charged in connection with the incident and have appeared in court.
