Irish couple killed while walking dog in England
POLICE in Britain are investigating a tragic road collision in which an Irish couple were killed while out walking their dog near their home.
The couple, both believed to be in their 60s and from Cork, were struck while on a road outside Maidstone in Kent on Saturday.
They are believed to have been hit by a BMW X5 car.
The collision happened in Thurnham Lane, Bearstead. Police questioned the male driver of the car.
The couple’s dog was also killed. Conditions on the roads were treacherous due to ice.
Despite frantic efforts by paramedics from the emergency services to assist the couple, both were pronounced dead before they could be transferred to a nearby hospital.

Local media in Kent are saying the Irish couple had been living for some time in the area. It’s understood the police have made contact with their extended family in Cork.
Kent Police have now issued an appeal for information on the incident.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Witnesses are sought following a fatal collision in Bearsted, Maidstone.
“At around 1.40pm on Saturday 20 January 2024, the driver of a black BMW X5 was involved in a collision with two pedestrians who were walking a dog in Thurnham Lane.
“Officers attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service where both pedestrians, a man and a woman in their 60s, along with the dog, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any other information or dashcam footage prior to, or at the time of the collision, is urged to call Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.”
Police in Kent have yet to name the couple.
