IN the same TV family as Long Lost Family comes this brand new show about children born from a donor.
These people could have multiple siblings they had no idea existed – and now they’ve decided to open this Pandora’s box.
Narrated by Davina Mccall, cameras follow searchers as they unite with brothers and sisters or track down anonymous donors who never imagined they could be found.
Their detective work is supported by DNA technology, genealogists and a specially created social media community of people who were also conceived by donors.
IDENTITY
The show is being made as a UK law change takes effect, which sees donor anonymity disappear and anyone conceived by donation after 2005 able to find out more details about their identity when they turn 18.
The programme also highlights the issue of those born before 2005 who are searching anyway, with DNA testing now so easily accessible.
It’s a thought-provoking show that touches on ethical dilemmas while revealing some fascinating stories.
There’s a woman whose donor’s sperm was delivered across the world in her great aunt’s hand luggage and a brother and sister who discover they are two of 21 siblings.
This episode follows Liam Renouf, who was born to a single mum on Jersey in 1995. He grew up wondering about his “dad” and saved up Father’s Day cards to give to him one day.
We also meet Sarah Smith who had no idea that she was donor-conceived until four years ago.
